How To Take Care Of Viscose

What is Viscose?

Viscose is extracted from beech or bamboo and in a manmade process pressed into fibres. Its cellulosic natural base gives it properties similar to those of cotton and smoothness like silk. Viscose breaths well, moisture absorbent and hangs very well on the body. We call this a semi-synthetic raw material.

1. How to Wash

Check the washing instructions! Always use cold water – it helps prevent shrinking. If you do put it in the washing machine - make sure it goes in a bag inside out and on a slow speed.

2. Shrinkage

All viscose should be pre shrunk when you buy it so the shrinkage should only be 3 - 5% after this. But you can steam iron this back into shape after washing - the heat relaxes the fibres. But if you are not very keen on ironing - we recommend you buy up a size when purchasing viscose or rayon. Do NOT tumble dry!

3. Regaining the shape and softness

After hand washing your garment you have a few options.

1. Hang your garment in your bathroom with natural shower steam to help regain the shape when it dries naturally.
2. When the garment is still slightly damp, use an iron with lots of steam to bring it back to its natural shape.
3. If you have a clothes steamer - which is a great investment! Wait till its completely dry and and steam the garment back into shape and easily get those wrinkles out.

TIP: Always iron inside out to help preserve the colour.
